About Kilkee (Cill Chaoi)


Kilkee is a seaside resort in the South West of County Clare, Ireland. The town has been a popular tourist attraction since the early 19th Century. Kilkee has had many famous visitors over the years, and these are to name but a few: Charlotte Bronte (Writer), Lord Tennyson (Poet) Che Guevara (Revolutionary) Richard Harris (Actor), Russell Crowe (Actor), and Bruce Springsteen (Singer).

It is approximately a 60 minute drive from Shannon Airport. It is an ideal location for use as a base for touring West and North Clare and crossing the Shannon via the Shannon Ferry (Kilimer/Tarbert) to visit Kerry and return the same day.

Walks:
There are some breathtaking walks both to the north and south of the Kilkee Bay and indeed a stroll along the beautiful prom at sunset is a must for any visitor to Kilkee. From the nearby cliffs, one can see the Aran Islands on a fine day. There are fantastic pony trekking tours taking in beautiful vistas.


Wild Atlantic Way (WAW) Trail:
Kilkee is also a stop on the Wild Atlantic Way trail, which runs from West Cork to North Donegal.


Kilkee Scuba Club Water Activities - Diving:
Kilkee is well known for its wealth of spectacular dives. Jacques Cousteau declared that it was the best diving spot in Europe. The Kilkee Dive Centre is a fully-equipped centre and caters for both beginners and experts. The Diving Centre offers shore dives from the Duggerna Rocks and boat dives from the Black Rocks further out. The diverse marine life attracts divers from all around the world.

Water Activiteis - Swimming:
Kilkee overlooks the mile-long horse shoe sandy beach, which is also one of the safest beaches in Ireland. It is sheltered by a reef which stretches across the mouth of the bay. On the west end of the town are the "Pollock Holes" three naturally enclosed rock pools, which are a favorite with locals and visitors alike for a refreshing dip. There are numerous popular swimming spots all around Kilkee Bay. The Diving Boards at "New Found Out" allow for dives of up to 13 meters (45 feet) into the open Atlantic sea. Every year a swim race from the east end of town to the west end across the bay attracts lots of entrants.


Water Activities - Kilkee Waterworld - Indoor Water Park:
Treat the whole family, young or old to a splashing great day out in Kilkee Waterworld in County Clare. Waterworld provides geysers and gushers, bubbles and whirlpools for all the family to enjoy. Snorkeling and sailing are also popular water sports, as well as sea canoeing and jet skiing.


Kilkee Golf Club Kilkee Golf Club:
This challenging links course is laid out in an idyllic setting on the cliffs of west Clare with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. The spectacular third hole, where the green is perched on the point of George's Head, merits particular note. The ever-present Atlantic breeze ensures that Kilkee will provide the golfer with a real test.

Kilkee Strand Races:
The Strand Horse races on the Kilkee Bay Beach are held annually in September.


Loop Head Peninsula:

Kilkee is the gateway to the Loop Head Peninsula. As well as affording the visitor stunning wild scenery,   The ”Loop” offers many activities such as heritage trails, walking tours and dolphin watching can be accessed here also.

Kilkee offers a wealth of pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets.
